CPR Training Program

The South Brazos County Fire Department provides FREE American Heart Association CPR training to residents of the South Brazos County area.

With the information and skills you learn in this course, you could save a life. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is responsible for approximately 250,000 deaths outside of the hospital every year, you can make a difference. In this course you will learn CPR for Adult, Child and Infant; how to use an Automated External Defibrillator; how to relieve an airway obstruction in a choking person; and how to recognize the signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, and Stroke.

Classes of up to 14 persons can be accommodated. Contact us to schedule your class.

Recognize The Signs of Heart Attack and Stroke

Heart Attack

  • Chest discomfort or tightness is the most important signal of a heart attack. the discomfort lasts more than 15 to 20 minutes and is not relieved, or is only partially relieved, by rest or nitroglycerin. Some people describe intense pain, but this is not universal.
  • Other signs may include pain radiating to the arm or jaw, sweating, nausea, vomiting, or shortness of breath.
  • A feeling of weakness may accompany chest discomfort.
  • Signals of a heart attack can develop in either gender, even in young adults, at any time and in any place.

Stroke

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of stroke is critical to early intervention and treatment. The presentation of stroke may be subtle. Signs and symptoms of stroke may include:

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause.

If you suspect a person is having a heart attack or stroke, call 911 immediately.
